A Fun Trip to PBS

Andrew interviews a city councilman during a visit to PBS studios

Written By: Shaelan Williams, J.D.

Going to PBS this fall was such a special experience! Andrew joined his fellow Jack and Jill Believers grade group in attending the local PBS studios in Nashville, Tennessee. We received a warm welcome, branded PBS packs with goodies inside, a wonderful and immersive interview experience, and most importantly, education on multi-media safety.

Andrew had the unique opportunity to take the stage to ask an interview question of a local official. We were so proud of his bravery to speak with such boldness and clarity.

I think as a parent, it’s easy to focus on grades, sports, and our daily checklists to ensure the proper growth and development of our children - all of which are so very important . As time goes on, I become more keenly aware of just how equally important experiential learning opportunities are for children. Having this experiential public speaking opportunity at PBS is something that he can build off of, knocking away the nervous jitters of speaking in public one setting at a time. Learning through application in safe spaces like these also gives children reassurance that their dreams are attainable and are not so far away.
